It is difficult to believe that it is December yet again. How time has flown. It is wonderful to celebrate the birth of our Lord once more. It is such a pity that so many people do not understand the time and the season. There is such a rushing to and fro: a frantic dash to get the Christmas shopping done, with no real thought for others. Our roads become more hazardous than usual in this headlong rush to get there before the next one. People seem to lose all sense of perspective in their dash to get somewhere. You wonder where? No wonder, some people call it the silly season! A time when many people act out of character, and tempers are short, and all patience goes out of the window. We have forgotten the meaning of the time: The inexpressible Gift of God to a lost and hopeless world. It should be a season of good will and selfless love, yet it seems that everyone thinks only of self and being first on the road and in the queue. Let us be different. Let us put the interests of others before our own, as Jesus did. He put our interests above his own when he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross; when he was born of a woman, born under the law that he might redeem us from our sins through his precious blood. Let it be a time of giving selfless love to others in whatever way we are able. May the abundant blessing of God our Father, Jesus our risen glorified Lord and the richly rewarding fellowship of the Holy Spirit rest on you over this Christmas season as you celebrate the miraculous birth of our Lord and Saviour, the Living Lord Jesus, and may his presence go before you into the new year to direct you into his perfect will for your life. His name is Jesus because he came to save his people from their sins. Please pray that there will not be such devastation on our roads this year, and that people will drive responsibly.
