Do we really understand God when it comes to our dreams and desires? The desires God has for us sometimes seem overwhelming and then again so far away from reality that nothing seems to be… Like Shakespeare said, the question is “…to be or not to be…”
Dreams and desires are from God, I believe it with all my heart, but each and every person are influenced by the world they live in. We grow up with systems and institutions instead of relationships. Our dreams and desires are pure and perfect when we receive them, but we colour them in with crayons of fear, resentment, failure and rejection. Then we outline them with bright colours of acceptance, acknowledgement and success to make sure this dream will fit perfectly into the expectations of those people around us.
I know that God dreams with us, and almost every dream and desire we have comes from Him, but we defile it in fear of rejection, resentment toward others and past failures. We shape this gift we received into a product of worldly success, totally removing the uniqueness and power of God from it. We want to use it to our own glory – even by doing good, but then the original goal and purpose is gone. This is where we fail, for no man can receive all the glory and not be crushed by it.
Three things are always important to remember, Kingdom, people and you. Whatever you do must always build God’s Kingdom, God’s people and you. If not, the dream or desire was warped by fear, selfishness or some kind of worldly view or system.
Psalm 139:23-24 reads:
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
It is clear that David also knew this. He asks God to intervene and expose his heart so that no hurt or destruction may come from the wrong way of applying this gift. He goes on and asks God to lead him into the perfect way…
We are so afraid to accept the simplicity of God’s gift in our lives and always tries to ‘beautify’ it by a lot of worldly ‘crap’. God’s love was poured out abroad into our hearts to share and enjoy Him with every person around us, but this does not happen. We are so scared of sharing His love, because “just now someone will reject me…”
Why are we so afraid of love, so scared of the truth?
If we do not know how to show our love to those we love and respect, how will we be able to show love to those who hurt and destroy us? What is the ideal for life that which God intended…?
But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who despitefully use you and persecute you, so that you may become sons of your Father in Heaven. For He makes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
