We have to find Unity again as The people of God. A unity that overcomes the world.
Saint Cyprian, Father of the Church, bishop of Carthage wrote:
This seems a cheerful world, Donatus, when I view it from this fair garden, under the shadow of these vines. But if I climbed some great mountain and looked out over the wide lands, you know very well what I would see – brigands on the high roads, pirates on the seas; in the amphitheaters men murdered to please applauding crowds; under all roofs misery and selfishness. It is really a bad world, Donatus, an incredibly bad world. Yet in the midst of it I have found a quiet and holy people. They have discovered a joy which is a thousand times better than any pleasures of this sinful life. They are despised and persecuted, but they care not. They have overcome the world. These people, Donatus, are the Christians – and I am one of them.
– St. Cyprian, c. 258, a letter
This unity is found in Him, Christ Jesus our Lord and saviour!
You are of God, little children, and you have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
For everything that has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Those who are of God set their affections on the things above and not on the selfish things of the earth…
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Let us grow in the things of the Spirit!
Don’t let the things of this world cause you to miss out on the glorious things of the Spirit. Get your priorities in line with God’s Word. Set your mind on things above, and you’ll discover just how heavenly life was really meant to be!
