Do we truly know God, does "The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob" have any meaning for us?
The Israelites knew Him as "The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob", and they remembered who He is:
- The Creator of all things,
- The Saviour of the world,
- The God who gave Abraham a son at the age of a 100,
- The God who saved Isaac and Jacob’s families from famine,
- The God who saved His people from Egypt,
- The God who took His people through the Red sea,
- The God who took His people through the wilderness and the desert,
- The God who took His people through the Jordan river,
- The God who took His people into His blessings and promises…
All of this displayed God’s greatness and magnificences and is carried in His name, "The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob"!
His name brought His people in awe, wonder and admiration, and they worshiped Him for who He is.
Each one of us needs to find this name of God, the NAME that makes you breathless just hearing or thinking it. The name that displays His awesomeness and magnificences, His love and compassion, His mercy and truth, a name that makes Him real to you…
We should have a look how this was done in the Bible
…hear in Heaven Your dwelling-place, and do according to all that the stranger calls to You for, so that all the peoples of the earth may know Your name, to fear You, as Your people Israel do , and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by Your name.
(1 Kings 8:43).
…O Jehovah our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings You have ordained strength, because of ones vexing You, to cause the enemy and the avenger to cease. When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have established; what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man, that You visit him? For You have made him lack a little from God, and have crowned him with glory and honor. You made him rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet: all sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field; the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, and all that pass through the paths of the seas. O Jehovah, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!
(Psalms 8:1-9).
I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.
(Psalms 9:2).
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, Jehovah, have not forsaken those who seek You.
(Psalms 9:10).
Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Jehovah, among the nations, and sing praises to Your name,
(Psalms 18:49).
I will make Your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore the people shall praise You forever and ever.
(Psalms 45:17).
I will praise You forever, because You have done it; and I will wait on Your name; for it is good before Your saints.
(Psalms 52:9).
So I will sing praise to Your name forever, so that I may daily pay my vows.
(Psalms 61:8).
…To You, O God, we have given thanks, to You we have given thanks; for Your name is near, Your wonderful works declared.
(Psalms 75:1).
May you find God in your daily living, allowing Him to be come part of your life more and more…
